The sudden and shocking news of Ambassador Zingraf's passing left me feeling as if I had fallen into an air pocket. He was so vibrant and full of life that I could only ever picture him as active and always on the move. But the shock also brought back many memories. In the mental images I have of him as a wonderful boss and person, it is especially his mischievous, broad smile with twinkling eyes that stands out. That smile spoke volumes of his joy in engaging with the people around him and the world he so loved. Even in the challenging and exhausting moments of embassy work, it was often his smile that transformed the difficulties of daily tasks into something much lighter.
